Medicine bottles were the early precursors to Chinese snuff bottles and were sometimes used for snuff as well. This choice Paktong set features finely engraved Beauties on the fronts and the names of the medicinal compounds on the
reverse. Threaded
stoppers with tiny metal spoons. These unusual bottles are discussed in Raymond Li's book "The Medicine-Snuff Bottle Connection, Chinese Miniature Containers: A Dual Role."
