The Xuanji (Hsuan-Chi ) is one of the rarest and most enigmatic of the ancient jades, thought to be an astronomical instrument.  This example in translucent olive-brown nephrite displays the characteristic pattern seen in classic museum examples.  In the Shang Dynasty style and correct material but of later date.
