The reclining Rat (or is it a Cat?) well carved from dark celadon nephrite jade, its front half russet, attractive genuine turquoise eyes, suspension hole between paws. The Rat is highly regarded in Buddhist legend as it was the first animal to recognize the Buddha. For this reason it was given the place of honor at the head of the 12-animal Chinese zodiac.
